Description
This is a large Calymene trilobite from Morocco. These trilobites are preserved as molds within the sandstone formation in which they are found and are fairly common. This makes them a very inexpensive fossil collectible for their size and should be part of everyone’s collection.
The specimens you would receive will be of similar size and quality to those seen in photos in this listing. They measure approx 3-3.5 inches long and 1.75-2 inches wide. See listing for photos with a ruler.
Please note that most of these specimens have some repair, usually to glue them back together as they are often found in pieces.
Trilobites are a well-known fossil group, probably the second best known fossil group in the world (behind dinosaurs).
They first appeared in the Cambrian period about 570 million years ago and disappeared in a mass extinction event at the end of the Permian period about 250 million years ago.
These Calymene Trilobite Fossils from Morocco are estimated to be 360 million years old.
Trilobites were a group of Arthropods, segmented bodies and limbs, with hard shells. Extinct today, over 15000 species have been classified to date, ranging in size from 1mm – 700mm long
